EPSB elects committee members at meeting

The Evangeline Parish School Board elected its board president, vice president, and executive committee at its Wednesday night meeting. By the end of electing board members to fill these positions, not all board members were satisfied.
The dissatisfaction came from board member Georgiana Wilson, who was not pleased with the fact that one board member in particular has seemed to remain as a member of the executive committee, Arthur Savoy.
Wilson addressed newly re-elected board president Wayne Dardeau, asking if something is going to be done about the fact that the same people are filling the same boards. “Arthur (Savoy) has been on the executive committee for a long time. We need to be fair, and I want to know if and when you are going to look into doing something about this,” Wilson asked.
Dardeau, however, reassured Wilson that he would “look into the matter” and let her “know something by January.”
Along with Savoy, board members Wanda Skinner, Peggy Forman, and Mike Fontenot were chosen to fill the remaining three spots on the executive committee.
For the vice president position on the board, Scott Limoges was elected by the board to remain in this position.
Following the election, assistant superintendent Darwan Lazard addressed the board to explain a new point of dispensing (POD) plan. The passing of this plan means that the school board will work with the state to be able to disperse medicine to certain people in the event of a “pandemic.”
The two locations that have been chose to serve as dispensaries are Ville Platte High and Mamou Elementary.
Lazard was sure to point out that these locations will only dispense medication to the individuals covered for their POD, but there will be a POD for everyone.
According to Lazard, the individuals that will be able to use the school board’s PODs will be “active employees and their family, as well as retirees and their families.”
Lazard said, “All liability will be on the state and not us. We will just be a point of dispensing medication.”
Other items approved on the agenda were:
•Use school facilities for EPYB.
•Coordinated funding request for Evangeline Parish Early Childhood Community Network classroom seats based on 2015-2016 demand.
•Low quote from Associated Food Equipment of La. in the amount of $6,197.00 for two ovens at Mamou High and Vidrine Elementary.
•Low quote from Sayes Office Supply in the amount of $20,974.00 for copy paper for warehouse.
•Payment of $10,500.00 to Milliman for professional services rendered through October 31, 2015 in connection with the EPSB retiree medical plan
•Payment of $229,751.54 to First Student for November 2015 transportation services using general fund.
•Requisition to Riddell in the amount of $6,625.77 for PPHS to recondition helmets and other supplies for PPHS using school football funds.
•Payment of $9,050.49 to Shell for regular education bus fuel and maintenance fuel using general fund.
•Payment of $36,900.00 to Kolder, Champagne, Slaven, & Co. LLC for progress billing on audit of financial statement using general fund.
