EPSB learns performance scores are coming soon
Evangeline Parish School Board Superintendent Toni Hamlin informed board members Wednesday, October 15, that the release of school performance scores, as well as district performance scores, is coming next week.
Hamlin said the release of the scores is scheduled to be on Tuesday, October 21, which is what she learned during a conference call with the state. The board members will receive a full report on the scores as soon as they have them.
In other business, Chief Financial Officer Amy Lafleur reported that the school district received its first decrease in sales tax collections since the beginning of the fiscal year in July. For the months of July and August, the school district saw collections increase by $24,382.50 and $7,879.06 respectively over last year. In September, the school district collected $595,033.37 this year, while it collected $616,492.35 last year, a difference of $21,458.98. Fortunately, Lafleur said the school district remains positive overall, having collected $10,802.58 more over the course of the first three months of the fiscal year than the same period last year. Lafleur added she is hopeful for the Christmas season and that it will bring increases in spending and sales tax collections.
The board also received information from Hamlin, regarding Ebola, intended to dispel some of the false information floating around regarding the disease and how it is spread.
The board also learned that the school district will have representatives at a briefing for emergency responders and public officials on October 23, at the Mamou Recreational Center. The Department of Health and Hospitals will be there to give a presentation and answer questions regarding Ebola.
