At the school board meeting that was held last Wednesday, August 5, the transportation of student athletes home by coaches was heavily discussed.
Coaches would be reimbursed for mileage if they brought an athlete home. School Board President Wayne Dardeau said, “We should maybe look into using that money to pay our coaches more because our parish pays coaches less money than any other parish.”
Another new policy that sought and received approval from the board, unlike the transportation policy, dealt with students wearing ankle bracelet monitors.
The policy states, “Any student assigned to wear an ankle bracelet monitor by the judicial system shall be enrolled at Evangeline Central until his/her case has been resolved.”
After the child’s case reaches a resolution the student will then be able to return to their regular school.
At the policy meeting on July 29th Superintendent Toni Hamilin had reported that district judges Chuck West and Gary Ortego are willing to work with the school system by assigning students with ankle bracelet monitors to Evangeline Central.
Other major agenda items:
•Permission to adopt a resolution ordering and calling an election to be held in school district No. seven for the seventh police jury ward of the parish of Evangeline and the seventh police jury ward of the parish of Acadia to authorize the issuance of general obligation funds
•Permission to approve low quote for zero turn mower for central office, James Stephens Montessori, VPHS sports complex using parish wide maintenance funds
•Renewal of student accident insurance with Lemoine insurance agency, LLC in the amount of $42,322.12 using general fund
