EPSB workers to receive extra check in mail

Evangeline Parish School employees can expect to receive a gift from the Evangeline Parish School Board on Monday. This gift will be given in the form of an additional check in the mail.
The Louisiana Legislature designated Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) funds to a pay increase for certified classroom teachers. However, according to a press release issued by the EPSB at Wednesday’s board meeting superintendent Toni Hamlin recommended that these funds be used to reward all professionals with the same amount allocated per certified teacher as well as provide support workers with a percent of the one-time pay raise.
CFO Amy Lafleur said, “This is to recognize all of the hard work our employees are doing.”
Each professional will be receiving $635.01 and support workers receive $285.75.
All professional and support workers who were employed by EPSB as of October 1, 2015 can expect to receive these one-time supplemental funds on their regular scheduled payday, which is October 26. Be sure to look for your check, because according to Lafleur all employees will receive their one-time raise in check form and not by direct deposit.
The release also stated that the funds that will soon be disbursed out to employees are in addition to the November excess sales tax distribution, which will be issued with the regular November 20, 2015 payroll.
Other items approved unanimously were:
•Permission to apply for an IDEA Grant in the amount of $75,000.00 for the purpose of building pathways to high school diplomas for students with disabilities.
•Set calender for board meetings for November 4 and 18, December 9, and January 13.
•Set 2016 high school graduations for: Basile High and Mamou High, May 13; Pine Prairie High, May 12; Ville Platte High, May 19; and Evangeline Central, May 23 at Pine Prairie High’s campus.
