A slightly different board assembled Tuesday night for the Fire District No. 2 Board Meeting.
Former Ville Platte Fire Chief Ted Demourelle attended his first fire district meeting as one of the fire district’s new board members.
In his first meeting, Demourelle was able to be a part of giving full-time fire fighters something to look forward to in 2016.
The four board members present at the meeting approved a two percent pay increase for the Ville Platte fire fighters from the City of Ville Platte. The raise had been approved earlier Tuesday during the City of Ville Platte Council Meeting.
Along with Ville Platte firemen, Chataignier Fire Department is also experiencing positive changes.
Discussed and accepted at Tuesday night’s meeting was the lowest bid from Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc. for the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (S.C.B.A.) for a Chataignier fire truck.
The SCBA will cost the district $5,690.00, but with this purchase and installation all of the fire district trucks will now be equipped with these air packs.
Since appointments to the fire district’s board, by the police jury, caused the board’s former chairman Grant Soileau to be replaced, the new board needed to appoint a new chairman as well as decide if their treasurer would remain the same.
The board reappointed Steve Thibodeaux as it’s treasurer. For the position of board chairman, the board members chose Hunter Soileau as the new Fire District No.2 Board Chairman.
Other items on the agenda, all of which were unanimously approved, were:
Lowest bid accepted from Cajun Offroad in the amount of $4,829.93 per truck (3)to have an extreme duty bumper/brush guard with a 16,000 lbs. winch.
2016 Budget.
