Fire District #2, Ward 1 is looking at spending a little more for two new fire trucks.
When it came to approving the specs for two new trucks, board member Hunter Soileau said, “Some of the volunteers involved in the truck building voiced to Danny (board member) and myself that we would try to go with the Custom Chastain instead of the Commercial Chastain.”
This change will only be for the fire truck that will be delivered in 2017 at the Belaire Cove Fire Station.
The change in fire truck according to board member Daniel McDaniel will increase the cost by “approximately $80,000” more.
While the cost of the truck has risen, the amount of water that the truck can hold has increased as well by 200 gallons. McDaniel said, “The truck will basically be the same as the other truck except they are going to put the bigger axle to hold a 2,000 gallon tank on the truck.”
A motion was made by McDaniel to cancel the Commercial Chastain for Belaire Cove and renegotiate for the Custom Chastain.
After unanimously approving the Belaire Cove fire tuck, the board also discussed and approved changes made to the new fire truck for the Faubourg Fire Station, which will be delivered in February 2016.
After minor changes were made to equipment and hookups on the Faubourg truck, the total cost of the truck increased by $13,400. The cost of the truck is now estimated to be around $458,000.
Also on the agenda and approved was:
Accept Bob Manuel’s Electrical bid of $19,860 for a generator for the Faubourg Fire Station.
