Fire District submits plans to state fire marshall

The Evangeline Parish Fire District #2’s plans have been drawn up for additions at the Belaire Cove Fire Station.
During the board’s October 13 meeting, board member Hunter Soileau informed the board that the plans for the additions, which will include making room for a new fire truck that will be purchased in 2017, will be submitted to the State Fire Marshall this Friday.
Review to approve the plans according to Soileau will take the state two to three weeks. Once the plans have been approved, there will be a period set for contractors to bid on the project. Ronald Landreneau and Associates, who were hired to create the plans for the fire district, will also oversee the plans being approved as well as advertising for the project.
It will still be a little while before construction at the Belaire Cove station actually begins, however. This is because once all of the bids are in, the lowest quote will not be able to be approved by the board until the board’s meeting following the closing of the open bid period.
Other items on the agenda, all of which were approved, were:
•Discussion to add wenches and brush guards to the truck bumpers in Chataignier and Belaire Cove.
•Advertise the projected budget for the 2016 year.
