Freeman arraigned; trial set for Sept.

A little over a month after Elaine Freeman was arrested for the simple kidnapping of her 12-year old son Jalon Bradley of Mamou, the 34-year-old appeared before 13th Judicial District Judge Gary Ortego to be arraigned on June 2nd.
Freeman, who is Bradley’s non-custodial parent, picked her son up from school on April 26, 2016 and left for Jackson, Mississippi without permission from Bradley’s father.
Police were able to locate Freeman and Bradley the following day in Jackson, where she was held in custody by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office until she was transported back to Evangeline Parish.
During her arraignment on Thursday, Freeman entered a plea of not guilty, and then it was determined that Freeman’s case will be heard by Judge Ortego.
Her probing, which is when the State and defense inform the court if they stand ready for trial, has been set for September 8, 2016 and her trial has been set for September 19, 2016.
Also in connection with this crime, Daphne D. Fontenot and Keyania M. Freeman were arrested and also appeared before Judge Ortego for arraignment on Thursday.
Fontenot entered a plea of not guilty for the charges of simple kidnapping and criminal trespassing on immovable property, while Keyania’s pled not guilty for obstruction of justice.
Both Fontenot and Keyania’s case will also be heard in Judge Ortego’s courtroom. Their probing dates have been set for September 8, 2016 and their trial dates have been set for September 19, 2016.
