On Thursday, Elaine Freeman appeared before Judge Gary Ortego and pled guilty to simple kidnapping.
Freeman, 34, was arrested on May 2, 2016 after the non-custodial parent kidnapped her son from school on April 26, 2016.
For the crime of simple kidnapping, Freeman received five years at hard labor - five years suspended - and five years of active supervised probation. As a special condition to her sentence Freeman must have no contact with her son and she must also stay away from her son’s father, who is the child’s custodial parent.
In addition, Freeman, who was represented by attorney Alex Chapman, will have to pay $1,000 in fines, $127.50 for court cost, $250 for the cost of prosecution, $100 for warrant fees, and $50 to the victims fund.
