House fire on MLK Drive claims life

A local man lost his life in a house fire late Tuesday night in Ville Platte.
Ville Platte firefighters responded to a structure fire at 1314 MLK Drive in Ville Platte at 10:22 p.m. on Tuesday, where investigators later discovered the body of 55-year-old Jessie Bias.
Local firefighters, as well as the Louisiana State Fire Marshall’s office said that Bias was the sole occupant of the home.
“The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but we did determine that it did originate in the kitchen, specifically the cook top,” Chief Deputy State Fire Marshall Brant Thompson said. “The matter remains under investigation.”
An autopsy has been officially requested.
