Hunters find body of elderly woman
Hunters in the north part of Evangeline Parish called the sheriff’s office Monday, December 6, at 7:51 a.m. to report they found a body lying next to a vehicle.
The hunters directed the deputy to the body, which is now undergoing an autopsy.
Captain Billy Wolff, with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the woman, Veronica White, who was 84 years old, had been reported missing the day before in Opelousas, where she lived.
Wolff said the woman apparently lost control of the vehicle, which slid down a six-foot embankment. He said the woman was found laying next to the vehicle and unresponsive.
Cause of death is pending results of the autopsy.
