Hurricane preparedness meeting set for May 14
The Evangeline Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness/911 will be hosting the annual hurricane preparedness meeting on May 14.
Hurricane season begins June 1, however the Evangeline Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness reported that this parish has faced many weather-related hazards just this year, including ice storms and tornados.
There will be a representative from the National Weather Service in Lake Charles in attendance to give a briefing on what this area could expect for the 2014 hurricane season, as well as weather patterns in general.
There will also be a presentation on preparing for the upcoming season, as well as preparing for other natural and man-made disasters.
The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, May 14, at the Mamou Recreational Center (skating rink) at 98 Main St., Mamou. Invited to attend are first responders, businesses, industries, schools, public entities and media.
