Long awaited test scores to be released next week

We learned at Wednesday night’s Evangeline Parish School Board meeting that teachers, students, and parents are only a week away from receiving the long awaited results of last year’s test scores.
Assistant superintendent Darwan Lazard made clarified some rumors that had been going around that some schools had received their scores already.
“The schools that have received their scores are true high schools, which means these schools are only ninth through 12th grade. All of our schools are combination schools. That is why we haven’t received our grades yet,” said Lazard.
This criteria will no longer matter come November 12 because that is the date that has been set for schools to receive their scores.
Because a new test was administered last year in Louisiana schools, understanding all of the information that will be received by parents may prove to be difficult. For that reason, the parish is taking steps to insure that each parent will fully understand how their child did on last year’s state test.
“We were encouraged by the state to have information nights for the parents. We plan to have the teachers there to help give parents information on the scores and how to read them,” said Lazard.
Since the scores should be arriving next Thursday, parents can be on the lookout for when your school will have its parent night.
Lazard closed the meeting out with even more good news for the parish’s students and teachers. “I just want to remind everyone also that all of our schools will be closed Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day.”
Other major items on the agenda that were approved were:
Ratification of requisitions to Bell’s Sporting Goods in the amount of $9,680.99 for BHS football equipment using BHS athletic tax.
Herff Jones in the amount of $6,000 for 2014-2015 yearbook order using proceeds from school.
Modern Technologies in the amount of $15,755.11 for a computer lab for district use using Title II funds.
