The Mamou Town Council Wednesday night appointed Kelly Tate as new town magistrate after Timmy J. Fontenot stepped down from the position. Mayor Ricky Fontenot thanked retired Judge Tom Fusilier for serving in the interim. “He did a very good job,” Fontenot said. “There were some changes that we needed to do in the court. We recognize that Ms. Kelly Tate is on board.”
The council also took under advisement proposed amendments or modifications to its ordinances relative to long grass and weeds.
Jason Savoy addressed the council on behalf of Kenneth McGee. Savoy suggested the “notice to be given like we do with our taxes just a simple letter in the mail so that person can have actual notice in hand via the U.S. Postal Service, and that way they can have an actual 10-day notice and not wait until March of every year especially those folks who live out of town who don’t receive the newspaper or have ready access to the paper.”
In other business the council voted to adopt the updated Evangeline Parish Hazard Mitigation Plan.
