Mamou police arrest Basile man for stolen car, drugs, burglaries

The Mamou Police Department arrested a Basile man for stealing a car, and later charged him with other recent robberies in the area.
According to the Mamou Police Department, on Wednesday, July 22 at about 02:52 am, police received a call in reference to a stolen vehicle from 621 RR in Mamou.
Officers Kierra Guillory and Benjamin Bordelon answered the call. The officers scanned the area in attempt to locate the vehicle.
At about 04:30 a.m., a unanimous caller said the vehicle was spotted at Wal-Mart in Mamou. Officers arrived at the scene and arrested 33-year-old Anthony Jude Soileau of Basile who was in possession of the vehicle.
During the arrest, Bordelon noticed two clear baggies in the driver side floor board (front) that contained a green leaf like substance believed to be marijuana. Mamou Police Chief Robert McGee was called and he advised the officers to impound the vehicle until a search could be conducted.  
Next day the vehicle was searched by McGee and Officer Joey Arnaud  and the law enforcement officials found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Other items included a car stereo, a GPS device, tools and knives.
Later that morning, the department started receiving calls about several car break-ins. Victims came to the station where they identified the items that had been stolen and those items were returned.
Soileau was charged for five separate incidents. Those charges for those incidents include:
•1st Incident: Theft of a motor vehicle,  criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana, possession of Zolipindem and drug paraphernalia.
•2nd Incident: Theft and burglary.
•3rd Incident: Theft, burglary and criminal damage to property.
•4th Incident: Theft and burglary.
•5th Incident: Theft and criminal damage to property.
