On August 3, 2016 the Ville Platte Police Department received a call reporting a Dodge Dart car traveling east on Main Street in Ville Platte at a very high rate of speed.
According to a VPPD press release, “shortly thereafter the department received a call that the vehicle had exited the roadway and crashed into an electric pole causing the pole to snap and break.”
When officers and detectives arrived at the scene of the wreck, which happened shortly before 7:00 p.m., they “observed that the pole had snapped and had moved over two feet from its original location.”
The release goes on to state that “the engine of the vehicle caught fire and the Ville Platte Fire Department responded to the scene.” Firefighters were able to successfully put out the fire.
“The only occupant of the vehicle,” according to the release, “sustained minor injuries and was transported to Opelousas General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance.”
The police department said that “a blood alcohol test was conducted and charges are pending the outcome of the results.”
At press time, the name of the driver had not been released.
