EUNICE – Brent Ardoin is tired of the government trying to control everything, and to express his frustration he has given Louisiana its very first Trump Tower.
Ardoin, who has run the Mamou Road Water System, Inc. as its system manager for the last 28 years, said, “I decided to have it say Trump on our water tower to wake the people up. Trump has said that he is going to control the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and that’s exactly what we need.”
But why is the long time employee of the private water system frustrated?
According to Ardoin, it’s because the EPA has been trying to force the Mamou Road Water System to have a plant built to pump their water, which would change the quality of the water used by residents in the Frenris, Lanse Meg, Choupique, Rougeaux, Tyron and Durald areas.
Ardoin said, “The EPA wants us to abandon the two good wells we have, and they want us to go like Bayou Des Canne and North Crowley where they make them put $2 million plants and they use lime and other chemicals. We are taking pure natural water straight out of the ground, but what they want us to do is get the high iron water and run it through a treatment plant and chemical inhibitors.”
The reasons why Ardoin is against building a plant is because he said he would feel like he is “poisoning the people.”
Ardoin said, “People call our water perfect water, and that’s how it needs to stay. I don’t want my people to have the kind of water they would if we did what the EPA tried to force us to do.”
This fight though, has been a costly one.
“We’ve been testing this well for 10 years and this has cost us big money,” Ardoin said. “We use to be able to save money for other projects, but now we have had to spend that on labs to test the water. I’m still paying taxes which was suppose to pay for that, but they take our taxes and then make us still pay for these labs. Our government is out of hand.”
For $150 Ardoin was able to purchase two sets of vinyl letters from Bourque’s Signs to display on the water tower located at the intersection of La. 13 and Soileau Rd. in between Lakeview Park & Beach and the City of Eunice. While only one set of the letters are up at this time, Ardoin will be plastering the other set across the water tower very soon.
Ardoin said, “There haven’t been any shots fired yet, so we are going to go ahead with putting it on the other side of the tower too. I’d say about 90% of the people here are Trump people so I think they like it, but the most important thing is that people realize what our government is doing so that we can put a stop to it like Trump says he will.”
