Navarre pleads guilty to perjury charge

Nearly six-months after being accused of committing perjury in an Evangeline Parish courtroom, Sarah Navarre appeared in court to plead guilty to this crime.
Navarre was first arrested back in August of 2015, after she took the stand to testify as a witness for the state in a case against her husband Cody Keith Fontenot.
During Fontenot’s trial, Navarre testified that she had committed the crimes that her husband had been accused of, which were simple burglary and theft.
Following the reading of the jury’s guilty verdict in the case against Fontenot, Navarre was arrested for the lying under oath.
One January 29, 2016, Navarre pleaded guilty to one count of perjury, and earned herself three-years hard labor, two at which have been suspended. Navarre also received three-years of probation following her release.
Navarre will serve one year in jail.
