New library opening date moved back
Construction on the parish’s new main library has resumed after an apparent pause in the project, causing the Evangeline Parish Police Jury to meet in closed, executive session on Monday, November 18, to consider its options.
The police jury authorized the police jury president, Brian Vidrine, and the jury’s consulting engineer, Ronnie Landreneau, to take whatever action is necessary to ensure that work on the new library continues.
Vidrine said no action is being contemplated because work has resumed on the library this week. A sub-contractor is in the process of installing the drop ceiling in the library. Work on final components of the library interior, including moving in furniture, cannot be done until the ceiling is installed.
Vidrine said the schedule of the project was the issue, and not the quality of the work, which he said was excellent.
However, completion of the library has been moved past the beginning of the coming year, according to Mary Foster-Galasso, parish library director.
