New main library building passes fire marshal's inspection
The new main parish library passed the fire inspection conducted Tuesday, July 29, by Michael Dess Fontenot.
The favorable outcome is an important milestone in bringing the new library’s opening date closer. However, the parish library director, Mary Foster-Galasso, said it’s too early to set an opening date. There are still some preliminary work before the bookshelves and other furniture can be moved in.
The library board voted last Monday to request the Police Jury, during its next meeting, declare the library construction substantially complete, contingent on passing the fire inspection.
Foster-Galasso said the move to the new main library building will be made “as soon as possible” and that as the actual move takes place, she and the library staff will try to minimize the library closing, perhaps to four or five days.
Work on the exterior of the new library building continues. St. Landry masonry contractor Kenneth O’Connor, a Ville Platte native, was working last week on planters at the outdoor patio area. The planters will be faced with rock, matching the rock on the building’s square columns.
