New main library expected to open soon

During a check presentation ceremony at the new main parish library Tuesday, July 1, the director of the library said work on the interior is nearing completion and the new library should be ready to move into in the late summer or early fall, possibly September.
Mary Foster-Galasso, director, said the granite counter tops for the circulation desk should be installed within a couple of weeks. Then the building can be inspected by fire officials, one of the last steps before moving to the new main library and opening the building to the public.
Foster-Galasso reported on progress at the new library just after an informal check presentation from Chevron Corporation. Presenting the check was Phil Miller, Chevron Gulf Coast operations procedure advisor, who lives east of Chataignier.
After he made the presentation, he encouraged other Chevron employees who live in Evangeline Parish to contribute to the new library project. He said about 200 Chevron employees live in the parish or have family here.
Friends of the Library has raised $57,000 so far for the project.
At the beginning of the year, the police jury declared the Lake Charles contractor in default for failure to continue work on the project and a new contractor took on the project.
