These are the unofficial results for the November 4, primary election. These results are unofficial until verified by the Louisiana Secretary of State.
U.S. Senator
In the race for U.S. Senator, Evangeline Parish voters favored "Bill" Cassidy with 39.44 percent (4,798) of the vote while incumbent Mary L. Landrieu received 35.75 percent (4,349). Votes for other candidates in Evangeline Parish were: Wayne Ables, 2 percent (244 votes); Thomas Clements, 1.36 percent (166 votes); Rob Maness, 19.4 percent (2,360); Brannon Lee McMorris, 1 percent (123 votes); Vallian Senegal, 0.4 percent (49 votes); William P. Waymire, 0.6 percent (75 votes). Overall results show Landrieu with a slight edge, garnering 42 percent of the vote (618,840) while Cassidy received 41 percent (602,439). The two will face each other in a runoff on December 6.
U.S. Representative - Fourth Congressional District
In the race for U.S. Representative for the Fourth Congressional District, voters in Evangeline Parish overwhelming chose John Fleming with 78 percent (7,876) of the vote, while his opponent Randall Lord received 22 percent (2,217). This also appears to be the break down overall, with Fleming securing 73 percent (152,670) and Lord receiving 27 percent (55,224).
13th Judicial District Court Judge - Division A
Locally, Gary Ortego has secured the 13th Judicial District Court Judge seat in Division A with 54 percent of the vote (6,448), avoiding a runoff with his opponents Gilbert Aucoin and Tony Dupre. Aucoin received 21 percent (2,548) of the vote while Dupre received 25 percent (2,985).
Ville Platte City Court Judge
For the position of Ville Platte City Court judge, a runoff will be held on December 6, between the two top vote getters, Julhelene "Betsy" Jackson (34.03 percent, 2,110) and Gregory Vidrine (29.53 percent, 1,831). Their opponents, Alex "Sonny" Chapman and "Kathy" Fontenot-Meyers, received 18.87 percent (1,170) and 17.58 percent (1,090) respectively.
Mayor of Ville Platte
For the position of mayor of Ville Platte, incumbent Jennifer Vidrine managed to win her re-election bid with 65 percent of the vote (2,054). Her opponent, Taranza Arvie, received 35 percent (1,107).
Ville Platte Chief of Police
Ville Platte's race for chief of police heavily favored incumbent Neal Lartigue with 48.91 percent of the vote (1,571). However, it was not enough to avoid a runoff. Lartigue will face Linton Fontenot on December 6. Fontenot received 27.52 percent of the vote (884). The third candidate, Glenn Leleux, received 23.57 percent of the vote (757).
Mamou Chief of Police
Mamou's next chief of police has not yet been selected, as Katina Richard, the top vote getter, received 39.9 percent of the vote (484) and Robert McGee received 34.71 percent (421). The two will face each other in a runoff on December 6. The other two candidates, Allen Noel Sr. and Charles Perdices, received 14.1 percent of the vote (171) and 11.29 percent (137) respectively.
Mayor of Basile
In Basile, a new mayor has been chosen, as incumbent Berline Sonnier received only 33.64 percent of the vote (147), while her opponent, Mark Denette, received 66.36 percent (290).
Mayor of Turkey Creek
There also was a similar result in Turkey Creek, as Bert K. Campbell narrowly defeated incumbent Heather Miley Cloud for the position of mayor. Campbell received 50.93 percent of the vote (110) while Cloud received 49.07 percent (106).
Turkey Creek Chief of Police
A runoff will be held between Robert Glen Leggett and Louis Dale Marcantel in Turkey Creek's police chief race. Leggett was the top vote getter with 49.02 percent (100). Marcantel received 47.55 percent (97). Raymond DarDar, the third candidate, only received 3.43 percent (7).
Chataignier Chief of Police
The Village of Chataignier chose to keep incumbent Paul Allen Jr. in the position of chief of police. Allen received 57.38 percent of the vote (105). His opponent, Bill Ortego, received 42.62 percent (78).
Evangeline Parish School Board races
District Six of the Evangeline Parish School Board will have a new board member after Micheal Fontenot received 63.33 percent of the vote (506), defeating incumbent David Landreneau, who received 36.67 percent (293).
School board member in District Seven will remain the same, with incumbent Buck Dupuis winning re-election by a narrow margin. Dupuis received 50.26 percent of the vote (477) and his opponent, Sheila Joseph, received 49.74 percent (472).
District Eight school board member Wanda Anderson Skinner will retain her position with 57.41 percent of the vote (519). Her opponent, Jackie Doucet, received 42.59 percent (385).
