Quint West’s first council meeting as elected Mayor of Pine Prairie was short and to the point.
Mayor West handed specific appointments concerning village matters to the three alderman. Debbie Oge’ will handle streets/sights, Gilbert Bordelon will be in charge of sewer/grass and Tammy Hammond will handle recreation.
The new mayor, and former longtime alderman and mayor pro tem, had only this instruction for the village’s council members.
“Anybody can come to you about a problem that doesn’t have to concern you exactly or concern what you are over,” West said. “The only thing I do ask is that you let that person who is over it know.”
The council then quickly got down to business as the board approved Mayor West’s recommendations to appoint Landreneau & Associates as Village Engineer, Michael Johnson as Village CPA, Vige, Tujague & Noel as Village Auditor, Mona Norton as Mayor’s Clerk of Court, Kristan Bordelon as Village Clerk/Tax Collector and Judge Jules Gregory Vidrine as Village Attorney.
The council also removed former mayor Terry Savant from the village’s bank accounts, added alderman Tammy Hammond to those accounts and also approved Hammond as Mayor Pro Tem.
The council wrapped up the meeting by approving and adding four ordinances to be discussed at a public hearing prior to next month’s council meeting in February. Those ordinances include mayor’s salary and expense, council salary and expense and chief of police salary.
The next Village of Pine Prairie council meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at Village Hall. Public hearings will begin at 5 p.m. with the regular meeting following the completion of the hearings.
