The lights at the public tennis courts in the Village of Pine Prairie were a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s monthly council meeting.
During her report, council member Tammy Hammond informed the board that the lights at the courts were once again not working. The lights at the tennis courts have long been an issue for the village.
Mayor Quint West informed The Gazette that he met with an electrician on Thursday morning to examine what is causing the lights to not work.
“It appears that the timer is broken,” West said. “The lights are not burned out because we were able to turn them on manually and they worked. So there is something about the timer that is not working. We feel that we can get it fixed pretty quickly.”
During his report, council member Gilbert Bordelon informed the board that there are several culverts in the village that are in need of cleaning. After some discussion amongst the council, the decision was made to have Bordelon compile an official list of the culverts that need to be cleaned and he will present that to either the mayor or the village’s clerks, who will then turn it over to the maintenance department to clean.
Other items the Pine Prairie Council unanimously approved Tuesday were:
• Adopt Ordinance #1-2017, the appointment Kristan Bordelon as Village Clerk/Tax Collector
• Adopt Ordinance #2-2017, Mayor Quint West’s salary and expense at $1,800 per month
• Adopt Ordinance #3-2017, Council Members’ salary and expense at $450 per month per member
• Adopt Ordinance #4-2017. Chief of Police L.C. Deshotel’s salary at a bi-weekly rate of $1,153.85
• Chief Deshotel’s recommendation to hire Rodney Lofton as a full-time police officer, contingent upon Mr. Lofton passing a psychological and physical exams
