The Village of Pine Prairie is working on improving its drainage.
During the village’s monthly meeting held Thursday, April 13, Mayor Quint West informed the council of the work that has been done to the village’s drainage ditches.
“We had some citizens call me about standing water in the ditches and they are worried about everything that comes with that, like mosquitoes,” West said. “That is what got us looking at the issue more closely.”
West discussed the problems with the village’s maintenance workers and the group decided to adjust the slopes in the ditches to help them drain more quickly.
“It hasn’t rained enough since the work began but the work we have done has already helped drain all the standing water we did have in town,” West said.
The mayor said that work has been completed on 10 ditches with plans of additional work to be done on more ditches in the future.
The council also decided to table approving the renewal of the Intergovernmental Agreement between 9-1-1 and the Village of Pine Prairie. The reason the motion was tabled was due to the renewal agreement not being ready at the time of the meeting.
In other business, the council approved:
The adoption of Ordinance #5-2017 (Amendment to Ordinance #2-2013), “General Employment Policy.”
The adoption of Ordinance #6-2017 (Amendment to Ordinance #3-2013) “Police Employment Policy.”
Payment of monthly expenditures.
