Pine Prairie Village Council accepts resignation of assistant police chief

The Pine Prairie Village Council, during the body’s July 10, regular meeting, accepted Assistant Police Chief James Chuncey Fontenot’s resignation, which was effective June 26, and agreed to Police Chief L.C. Deshotel’s recommendation of keeping Fontenot employed with the department on a part-time basis without benefits to assist with investigations on an as needed basis. The council also approved Deshotel’s recommendation to appoint officer Shane Guillory as the new assistant chief.
During his report, Mayor Terry Savant noted that repairs are in the process of being made to the gazebo, noting the floors were rotting and new posts were also needed. He said the floors were replaced and the new posts will be put up soon and the gazebo will also get new shingles and be washed and painted. He also stated he singed the paperwork to receive a $21,000 LGAP )Local Government Assistance Program) grant which will be used to repair the canal at Ninth Street.
In other business, the council:
•Adopted a bookkeeping/consulting contract with CPA Michael Johnson.
•Heard from Chuck West, a candidate for district judge, Division B. He gave a brief overview of his qualifications and background in law and court experience, noting he has served as legal advisor for many of the parish’s governing bodies, including serving as magistrate in Mamou. He thanked the council for their time.
•Approved the minutes of the June 12, regular meeting.
•Approved the payment of monthly expenditures.
•Heard the financial report from Village Clerk Kristan Bordelon.
