“In God We Trust” will now be seen during Evangeline Parish Police Jury meetings.
During Monday’s monthly meeting, police jury member Eric Soileau brought to everyone’s attention that he has been receiving phone calls inviting him and other citizens to become part of a “In God We Trust” movement. According to Soileau the grassroots program wants to post the phrase, “In God We Trust” in all meeting rooms where legal decisions would be made.
Soileau put the motion on the floor and it carried unanimously.
In other business:
•There was some deliberation between Brian Vidrine, Kenny Burgess (also minimal interjections from other jurors) concerning the Ville Platte Gazette being designated as the Official Journal of Ville Platte. Marcus Fontenot said the Gazette should remain the Official Journal for Ville Platte. The motion carried with only opposition coming from Vidrine.
•The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office requested funding in the amount of $3,849.00 to purchase orange jumpsuits, toiletries, pillows, sheets, new mattresses, and all necessary items that inmates may need upon booking into the parish jail. The motion carried.
