SHS, Pine Prairie softball teams off to good starts

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojan and the Pine Prairie Lady Panther softball teams have begun the 2017 season in full force.
Sacred Heart has opened the season with a 3-2 record and recently competed in the Eunice High tournament held this past weekend. In that tournament, the Lady Trojans went 2-1 with wins over Livonia and Bell City. The lone loss came at the hands of Loreauville.
Meanwhile Pine Prairie has begun the new year with an overall record of 4-2. The Lady Panthers are 2-2 in their last four games, with wins over New Iberia and Crowley. Pine Prairie lost to Acadiana and North Vermilion in the St. Thomas More tournament.
Here is a rundown of some of those games.
Sacred Heart
vs. Livonia
The Lady Trojans completely dominated the Lady Tigers, collecting 19 hits in a run-rule 12-2 win.
Sacred Heart scored in every inning except the third en route to the victory. Camille Fontenot and Aubrey Foret combined for seven strikeouts and the win, as they held Livonia to only four hits. Caroline Fontenot led the way at the plate going 4-4.

vs. Loreauville
Despite collecting 11 hits, Sacred Heart was unable to hold on in the final two innings, as the Lady Trojans fell 13-8.
Loreauville trailed 8-5 going into the top of the sixth inning, but jumped all over Sacred Heart in the top of the sixth, scoring eight unanswered runs to seal the win. Camille Fontenot pick up the loss for the Lady Trojans. Karli Fontenot led Sacred Heart at the plate with four hits in four at bats.

vs. Bell City
It was not even a contest from the start, as the Lady Trojans pummeled Bell City 16-1 in three innings.
The Lady Trojans picked up four runs in the first, three runs in the second and nine runs in the third inning. Aubrey Foret secured the win on the mound and Sydnie Soileau was 2-2 at the plate.
Pine Prairie
vs. New Iberia
It took only five innings for Pine Prairie to run-rule New Iberia in an 11-0 win.
The Lady Panthers started slow, but finished fast, scoring nine runs in the last two innings. Karli Ortego got the win on the mound, while Macy Harvey and Jacie McFarlain were both 3-4 at the plate to lead Pine Prairie.
Pine Prairie
vs. Crowley
The Lady Panthers scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to secure a 2-0 win over Crowley.
Karli Ortego went the distance, holding Crowley to only three hits while striking out six. Tori Bordelon was 1-1 in three plate appearances with a double to lead Pine Prairie.
