SLCC improves welding program

Special to the Gazette

Arthur Savoy and Russell Netherland, the welding instructors for South Louisiana Community College in Ville Platte, would like to talk about welding.
The welding program at SLCC has recently undergone changes that now allow students to graduate in 12 months, rather than 18. Registration for this program is only open once a year, making it imperative for those interested to register as soon as possible.
Students who enter the welding program will go Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. They will learn all of the major welding processes such as Stick, MIG, Fluxcore and TIG.
There is a shortage of qualified welders and with big industries moving in to Louisiana welders are being highly sought after. Mr. Savoy and Mr. Netherland receive calls from industry leaders’ everyday seeking qualified welders and under their guidance you will become the qualified welder these industries are in need of.
Coreil campus offers current and up-to-date equipment that allows for quality instruction to prepare a welder to enter the workforce making $18-$25 and hour.
Do not let the burden of tuition stop you from registering at SLCC because the school offers information regarding Financial Aid, such as pell grants and scholarships to candidates that qualify.
All are welcome to stop by and take a tour of SLCC’s state of the art welding shop and receive all necessary information on the application process. If you are interested in applying for the program, there is a deadline and a limited number of openings, which are filling up quickly. Spots are first come, first serve.
Mr. Savoy and Mr. Netherland look forward to meeting with anyone interested in the welding program.
