Son of parish residents get president's nomination for CFO position

The son of an Evangeline Parish resident Martin Fontenot, who lives in the Reddell area with his wife Thelma, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the U.S. Treasury Department’s next chief financial officer.
Brodi L. Fontenot is the current assistant secretary of administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation, a position he has had since 2012. The president nominated him for the treasury department CFO position on July 31.
Two other offices Fontenot has held at DOT was deputy assistant secretary for administration from 2010 to 2012, and deputy assistant secretary for management and budget from 2009 to 2010.
Before then, he was a budget analyst for the U.S. Senate and was senior analyst for the Government Accountability Office.
Brodi’s father, Martin, is from Pine Clair, where Brodi;s grandmother, Hazel Chretien, lives. Brodi’s father, Martin , said he is grateful for the focus that his son is able to maintain. “He stays focused on a goal,” he said.
“Education is a key,” Martin said. In fact he and his five sons have 11 degrees between them. The elder Fontenot has three degrees, two of them masters degrees. He is a retired chemist/environmental engineer.
Brodi graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High School, received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Houston and an M.P.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
