T-Boy’s awarded sixth straight People’s Choice honor

Gazette Staff Report

T-Boy’s has picked up another Boudin title.
For the sixth straight year, T-Boy’s Slaughter House of Mamou clinched the coveted title of first place in the People’s Choice Category at the 9th Annual Boudin Cookoff held on October 22, 2016 in downtown Lafayette.
The event is sponsored by BoudinLink.com, which is a Louisiana local website that rates Boudin from across the world.
T-Boy Berzas, owner of T-Boy’s Slaughter House in Mamou and T-Boy’s Boudin and Cracklins in Eunice, was honored and proud to secure the coveted first place title for the sixth consecutive year.
“We’ve been working hard to serve our best Boudin for the last 20 years, and we appreciate every compliment we get in return,” Berzas said. “But to come out here, and win the title of being the best Boudin around…Well, that’s the ultimate honor. Saying that we have the best Boudin in Acadiana is like saying we have the best Boudin in the world!”
So how does one make a Boudin that is award-worthy?
“The key to making perfect Boudin is to use the highest quality and freshest ingredients, as well as my own special blend of seasonings,” Berzas said. “You know, there are some other Boudins out there that aren’t as spicy or don’t have as much liver content, but we want to continue to make that classic Cajun Boudin and keep the tradition alive.”
Berzas also expressed gratitude to all of the local residents that continue to buy his award-winning Boudin.
“We’re very grateful for our success,” Berzas said. “We owe it all to God, of course, but our customers have really given us some great support over the years. Because of the great turnout at the Boudin Cookoff each year, a lot of other great things have come our way, including newspaper and magazine interviews, and even a national TV appearance,” he says, referring to his role in an August 2013 episode of the Cooking Channel’s Man, Fire, Food. “We are very blessed and hope to keep it going!”
