Trump receives warm welcome in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE -- A crowd of Louisiana citizens cheered as if they were watching an LSU football game in Death Valley last Thursday night. The venue for this event however, wasn’t Tiger Stadium, it was the Baton Rouge River Center; and the star of the night was Donald Trump.
Inside of the packed colosseum, a few chairs were even filled with some of Evangeline Parish’s own, who wouldn’t miss their chance to see the 2016 Republican Presidential Primary Candidate speak in their home state.
Lacye Soileau, of Ville Platte, was so determined to be there for the candidate’s speech that when her free babysitter canceled, she went ahead and paid for someone to watch her children.
“I had to go see Trump because I have grown highly concerned with the direction our country is going in. I have been following all of the candidates, but I like what Trump has to say,” said Soileau, “I want to be a part of the group of people that want to make America great again. I want to be a part of that group that takes back our country.”
For Rayna Dupree, of Pine Prairie, the two-hour journey she made to the capital city was to hear what Trump, who the 21-year old calls an “unexpected candidate,” believes he can do for the same country that Soileau wants to make great again.
“Trump doesn’t have a political background like many of the other candidates do. That makes him intriguing,” said Dupree. “It makes me want to hear more of what he has to say.”
Dupree wanted to hear more, and Trump didn’t disappoint.
Speaking on topics that ranged from taking care of our veterans to repealing Obama Care, Trump delivered a speech that swayed the sound in the colosseum back and forth from laughter to cheers.
In true Trump fashion, the candidate’s speech was loaded with comedy that sometimes poked fun at other political leaders.
At one point, Trump said, “Mexico’s leader told me that they are not going to pay for build a wall. So, I told him, yes, you are. And guess what? The wall just got 10-feet taller.”
Trump also took the time to inform the audience of when he finally had the realization that “if you want something done right, you just have to do it yourself,” which led him to running for president.
“I backed McCain, I backed Romney, and they both loss,” said Trump. “So, I said, I’d just do it myself next time.” Following his statement, the crowd broke out into laughter before beginning to chant “We want Trump!”
Throughout his sometimes comical speech, Trump still managed to touch on more serious points.
While discussing Obama Care, Trump said, “One of the first things I am going to do is repeal Obama Care. People tell me I should just amend parts of it, but the whole thing is just so bad that there is no point in only amending parts of it.”
Trump also addressed issues in the Middle East Thursday night. “I was against the war in Iraq. I said you are going to totally destabilize the Middle East, and that’s exactly what happened. That was a horrible call to go in, and that was a horrible call that Obama made when he got out the way he did,” said Trump. “You hear stories that the enemy wants to be killed, but they don’t. They pull back, we leave, and they knock the hell out of everything. Now we have ISIS.”
Trump’s idea of what to do with ISIS is simple. He said, “I have been saying for years, bomb the hell out of the oil.”
If elected president Trump is prepared to make a lot happen during his first-four years in the White House.
When it comes to if Trump would run for a second term if elected in November, Trump simply explained, “People have asked me if I would commit to four-years and not run again. I’m just telling you, I can do it all in four-years, but if I am doing a great job, then let me have four easier years.”
