Turkey Creek Council recognizes volunteers

TURKEY CREEK - On Monday, December 16, the Turkey Creek Village Council held its monthly meeting at the Turkey Creek Community Center. During the meeting, Mayor Heather Cloud stated she would like to give a special thanks to Donny Cloud, Tammy Chaddrick and the Christmas in the Village Board, maintenance employees and the clerks for all the hard work and dedication with the Christmas in the Village event. She also gave a special thanks to J.E. Causey for being the Grand Marshall in the Christmas parade. The Village board members, Lelia Thrasher, Aleah West, Rhonda Butler and Char Blood, were then honored by the council for their hard work and dedication to the Village of Turkey Creek. Council members Louis Dale Marcantel, Joey Ducote and Kenneth Johnson thanked Mayor Cloud for her effort in the community and thanked the Christmas in the Village Board, employees, and volunteers for supporting Cloud, because without all of them the event would have not been possible.
Mayor Cloud then listed a recap of village projects completed in 2013:
•The asphalting of Blackie and Buford Lane at Drouet Park. The village received funding through the LGAP Grant funding.
•Construction of the event stage at Drouet Park. The village received funding through Evangeline Parish Tourism Commission.
•Installed a power station/generator on our main well “water well 1.” The village received funding through CWEF Grant funding.
•Reconditioned and repainted the elevated water storage tank in Chicot. The village received funding through CWEF Grant funding.
•Relocated a main water line in a hazardous area on Stagecoach Rd. The village received funding through CWEF Grant.
•The installation of emergency call out systems on problematic sewer pumping stations.
•The village has implemented new accounting software which enables better tracking of village finances across all accounts.
Mayor Cloud also informed the council of pending projects that should be completed by the end of 2014:
•The village is in the process of relocating a hazardous water line on Clark’s Landing. The village received funding through CWEF Grant.
•The village has begun the water system map updating project. The Village is planning to have an up to date completed set of maps by the end of 2014.
•The village will have a designated “Contingency Fund” (emergency fund) set in place by the end of 2014 for the water system.
In other business, the council:
•Approved the minutes of the November 19, regular meeting and December 10, special meeting.
•Approved the payment of monthly expenditures.
•Heard the financial report from Village Clerk Melissa Ferguson.
