Turkey Creek shooting leaves one dead

On Friday, July 1, 2016, the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery and shooting around 11:45 p.m. near Chapelle’s Corner Grocery in Turkey Creek.
According to a press release from EPSO, when deputies and first responders arrived on the scene they “located an adult white male victim who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the side of his head, along with two white females.”
The victim, whose name is not being released at this time, was transported to the Rapides Regional Medical Center and he was later pronounced dead.
The release stated that the two white females that were with the victim “were brought in for an investigative interview.”
During the interview performed by EPSO Investigators, it was revealed that “the wounded male subject was attending a pre fourth of July celebration at the address of 1023 Cemetery Road in Turkey Creek.”
According to the release, it was during the party that “an altercation occurred between the victim and another while male subject.”
The release goes on to state that, “at some point, the suspect walks up to the victim and fires a handgun at the victim prior to fleeing the scene.”
Information about the suspect is still being gathered at this time.
