Ville Platte men sentenced in truck stop robbery
A Ville Platte man was sentenced last Friday to eight years and nine months in prison for the armed robbery of the Tiger Trax truck stop and casino in Whiteville in April 2011.
Dudley Stevens Nelson, 25, entered a guilty plea, along with two other defendants last October who also lived in Ville Platte -- Arinskie Tryvon Orlandeze Jones and Ronald James Doomes.
The sentencing Friday was announced in U.S. Western District Jiudge Elizabeth E. Foote’s court in Shreveport. Nelson also was sentenced to serve supervised release of five years and was ordered to pay a restitution of $11,675 -- the amount the defendants were charged with taking from the St. Landry casino.
The white SUV the three suspects were seen driving away from the casino was spotted and stopped. Three people attempted to flee on foot, and only Nelson was apprehended. Six days later, Jones and Doomes turned themselves in.
Doomes faces up to seven years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for November 15. No sentencing date has been set for Jones, who faces 20 years in prison. They both also face five years of supervised release and fines of up to $250,000.
