Ville Platte Transmissions helped out an out-of-town couple over Memorial Day weekend and now that act of after-hours customer service has garnered the local shop national attention.
In the August issue of GEARS Magazine, CEO Dennis Madden cited the letter about the excellent service Cliff and Laurie Barber received at the local shop during a cross-country trip back in May. That inspired the magazine, a national publication covering the transmission industry, to do a four-page shop profile on Ville Platte Transmissions for the October-November issue.
Transtar passed out thousands of copies of the issue at the ATRA’s 2016 PowerTrain Expo in Las Vegas.
“People started calling me about the article,” Ville Platte Transmission owner Alan Moore said. “They kept telling me to open it and turn to the page.”
The Barbers were traveling from Nevada to Florida and stayed over at Chicot State Park for the holiday weekend when the couple had some transmission problems. The Barbers got in touch with Moore and his staff at Ville Platte Transmissions, and the shop not only worked on the couple’s truck on the actual holiday, but also let them borrow his own truck to fix something on their travel trailer.
“This is what our business is all about,” Moore said. “It makes you feel good to help someone out. We have always taken the approach of thinking ‘what if that was you that needed help?’”
The Barbers wrote about how appreciative they were about the hospitality in a letter, which was published by The Ville Platte Gazette over the summer.
That letter is now framed and hanging on the wall of the shop.
“I didn’t know to feel at first,” said Moore, of how appreciative the couple were. “It was humbling what they wrote. It made me feel good.”
