Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce President William “ToJo” Ward said at Wednesday’s monthly meeting that the community can count on them during this time of need.
“For those people in the community you can turn to us,” said Ward, in regards to the hundreds of people in the parish affected by the historic flooding. “You can call us at the chamber and we will get people in the right direction.”
Uptown Cakes owner Lisa Crane also informed the group that her store has become a makeshift donation center due to its centralized location in town. Crane even told them about some of the needy people she met this week, including seeing a baby in Abbeville using a dish towel for a diaper.
Like Ward, Crane was more than happy to be there to aid the community in need.
“They have filled the front of my store three times,” Crane said. “If you have something that you want to donate you can drop it off or you can call us. We will have people come and get it from you.”
Missy Grimmett, Industry Coordinator for the Louisiana Workforce Commission, served as the guest speaker at Wednesday’s meeting. Grimmett informed the chamber of the numerous functions that the Workforce Commission does and what it provides businesses and prospective employees.
For information on the commission, Grimmett said to access the group’s website at www.laworks.net.
At Wednesday’s meeting, the chamber also approved Chris Soileau and Flat Town Music Co./U-Stor-It as a new member.
The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce will meet again on Wednesday, September 21st at noon.
