Helping businesses grow was a prevalent theme during Wednesday’s Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce meeting.
“Our family business has been in Ville Platte for almost 60 years,” new board member Luke Deville said. “I came back here to help the business grow and the city grow.”
“I know by participating in this that we all can help encourage growth with all businesses,” new board member Renee Brown said. “We can share ideas and develop a support system that can help each other businesses grow. “
The board welcomed a total of six new members, who will each serve a three-year term, during the monthly meeting. Those were: Brown with J.B.West & Associates; Linda Lebsack of the Evangeline Parish Tourist Commission & Friends of the Library; Anita Fontenot of The Hatchery and Southwest Loans, Annette Johnson of Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Co.; Felicia Manuel of Ville Platte Iron Works and Deville of Teet’s Grocery.
For Johnson, who has been involved with the chamber off and on for years, becoming a member of the board presents her with the opportunity to give back.
“Ville Platte is special to me,” Johnson said. “I just want to give back to the community.”
In other business at Wednesday’s meeting: the board approved the motion of last month’s minutes; approved the motion for May’s financial statement; announced current membership at 160, talked about the ribbon cutting held at Robert L. Stevens Land Surveying, LLC last Friday and announced that nominations will need to begin being sent in for new officers for the posts of president, vice president and second vice president.
Those new officers will be revealed at next month’s meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15.
