At Monday’s Ville Platte Civil Service Board meeting, the board members’ time was spent reviewing the qualifications of the three applicants hoping to take Fire Safety Training Officer exam.
The exam is required to for anyone applying to fill the newly created position of Fire Safety Training Officer at the Ville Platte Fire Department. However before an applicant can take the exam, the civil service board had to make sure that certain qualifications were met, such as five years of full time paid experience with a fire department or experience as a training officer.
After a review of the qualifications of applicants James Johnson, Christopher Soileau, and Charles Hughes, the board determined that all three men met the requirements to take the Fire Safety Training Officer exam.
The new position that these applicants are vying for is one that Ville Platte Fire Chief Chris Harrison requested to have created early in 2016 after the chief realized that office work was being pushed aside so that he could respond to calls.
The next step in the hiring process for the Fire Safety Training Officer position will consist of the three applicants taking the exam. Following this, their scores will be reviewed, as well as their applications, and then one candidate will be selected to fill the position by Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine.
