The Ville Platte Fire Department will be hiring from within to fill the department’s newly created fire training officer position.
At the Fire District #2’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, VP Fire Chief Chris Harrison reported to the board that the training position test scores were received.
Harrison also shared that of the three applicants only one had passed the required test to be considered for the job.
The fire chief, who requested for this position to be created, said, “We got the training scores back. Christopher Soileau was the only individual that passed the test, therefore I am going to talk to the mayor (Jennifer Vidrine) and ask that Soileau is chosen for the position.”
The board was in favor of this decision.
Before moving on at the March 14th meeting though, board member Ted Demoruelle requested that the fire chief begin including in his report at each meeting details about the training done by the fire training officer.
During the meeting, board member Shawn Devillier reported that renovations and additions to the Belaire Cove Fire Station are nearly complete.
According to Devillier, a walk through of the station was performed and “everything looks good.”
With just a few minor things to finish up, the work is expected to be finished soon.
Before closing out the meeting, Devillier requested that the next board meeting be held at the Belaire Cove Fire Station so that all board members can see the updates for themselves. All board members and the chief were in favor of moving next month’s meeting.
The next meeting will be held on April 11, 2017 at the Belaire Cove Fire Station beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Other items approved were:
• Signed certificate of completion to say that the contractor has completed all major components of the project at the Belaire Cove Fire Station.
• Approval to begin the necessary process to purchase a piece of land on Highway 167 N. Attorney Brent Coreil was chosen to handle the purchasing of this property for the fire district.
