VPPD arrests man for attempted rape

On Friday, April 7, 2017, Dwight Thomas was arrested for an attempted rape that occured on June 24, 2016.
According to a press release from the Ville Platte Police Department, on the night that the incident took place officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Vidrine Street in Ville Platte.
The release stated that, “Upon arrival officers learned that a black male had broken into a residence and attemted to rape the homeowner. The victim was able to press an alert button which frightened the suspect which caused him to flee the residence.”
Evidence was collected from the crime scene by officers that was then turned over to the Acadian Crime Lab.
According to the release, “In April of 2017 the VPPD received information from the Acadian Crime Lab that listed Dwight Thomas as the suspect in this incident.”
The 36-year-old was booked into the City jail and charged with attempted rape, aggravated burglary and sexual battery of the infirmed. Thomas was later transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail where he remains incarcerated on a $325,000.00 bond set by Judge Chuck West.
