VPPD arrests two suspects in armed robberies

Chief Neal Lartigue of the Ville Platte Police Department issued the following press release about ecent robberies that have targeted females who are arriving or leaving from a building or vehicle.
“An armed robbery was reported in the morning hours of Tuesday, May 30, 2017,” the release stated. “Suspects stole a purse from a female on East Cotton Street by gunpoint and fled on foot. Two suspects have been arrested. One suspect was a black male juvenile who was released to a guardian pending a court date. Also arrested was Anthony Voorhies, 26 of 412 West Oak Street, Ville Platte. Voorhies was charged with armed robbery and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Voorhies was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on a $55,000.00 bond set by Judge Gary Ortego.”
“On Wednesday, May 31, 2017 a black male robbed a female at gunpoint when she was arriving at work on West LaSalle Street,” the release continued. “After taking her personal belongings the suspect fled on foot, crossing LaSalle Street heading north. Suspect was described as a young, slim built, black male dressed all in black.”
The chief would also warned city residents about following laws and ordinances for safety.
“The Ville Platte Police Department responded to a shots fired call on Tuesday which turned out to be fireworks,” the release said. “Chief Lartigue would like to remind citizens that adults nor children should not be playing with fireworks. Not only is it illegal, it is dangerous. Remember that officers responding these types of incidents are using valuable time that could be spent helping others. If you are caught using fireworks at any time other than designated and approved times, you will be cited and in some cases you could face charges.”
