VPPD offers tips to prevent theft
Police Chief Neal Lartigue with the Ville Platte Police Department is reminding citizens to keep their belongings secure. Theft will happen, but you can help minimize your risk of being a victim. Securing your items can make it harder for a thief to take them. Prevention should always be a priority.
For your home:
•Remember to secure and lock windows and check door locks when leaving or at night.
•If you see someone who doesn’t belong in the area call the police department.
•Help your neighbors by watching out for each other. If you see someone on their property who doesn’t belong there, call the police department.
•If you call the police about a suspicious person, tell them what color clothes the suspect is wearing, if the suspect is on foot, bicycle or has a vehicle there.
For your outdoor belongings:
For out buildings, make sure that there are locks on doors and check these locks daily so that you don’t accidentally leave them unlocked.
For bicycles, four wheelers, lawn mowers, go carts and other items used outdoors remember to remove keys, chain them to something or lock them in a secure building.
For vehicles, please remember to lock and secure all doors.
Remember that reporting details may help police spot the suspect if they leave the residence before the police arrive. To report suspicious activity call the Ville Platte Police Department at 363-1313. All callers will remain anonymous.
