Walk against domestic violence held here Tuesday

A large crowd of people showed up at the courthouse Tuesday, October 21, where they began their walk in observation of Domestic Violence Awarenmess Month. A vigil followed the walk, with Randy Deshotel, parish clerk of court, as master of ceremonies. The speakers at the vigil included Billi Lacombe, executive director of the seven-parish Faith House organizztion, and Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine announced the city has proclamed October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Diana Johnson read the poem, “Remember My Name,” Evangeline Central JAG stuents performed a dance, and the group Men of Vision sang. After a reading of the names of people who have died in Louisiana as a result of domestic violence during the past year, final thoughts were presented by Marie Guidry, Ville Platte Faith House advocate. The theme of the evening event was, “Take Back The Night: No more Violence, No More Silence.
