Woman’s ‘suspicious death’ under investigation

The body of 29-year-old Latoya Richard was found in her home on High School Drive earlier this week after she failed to meet her daughter, who was getting off of the school bus.
Family members allegedly entered the home after Richard’s daughter went to a neighbor’s home and began contacting them regarding Richard’s whereabouts. The family found Richard’s body inside the home and contacted police.
According to reports, the Ville Platte Police Department is awaiting the coroner’s report to discover the cause of death in this case. There have been rumors being spread around Ville Platte, but no official word yet on the details in this case. Police have reportedly labeled Richard’s death as “suspicious” and are currently conducting an investigation. One family member reportedly made a statement to a local television station that Richard’s body was found with her head in a bucket of water. However, authorities have not yet publicly released any official statement regarding the cause of death or what they believe happened to Richard.
After contacting the Ville Platte Police Department regarding this case, The Gazette was unable to acquire any new information at press time.
