The Pine Prairie Police Department recently arrested Bertha Alvarado for bringing contraband into the Pine Prairie Correctional Center.
According to the PPPD, Officer Benjamin Bordelon was dispatched to the prison facility on April 2, 2017 in reference to this incident.
Upon arrival, Bordelon was advised that a guard “found a pack of cigarettes that was taken out of the cardboard pack and wrapped in foil, then sealed with blue tape in visitor Bertha Alvarado’s possession.”
The PPPD release went on to say the contraband was found “tucked into Alvarado’s right waist band of pants.”
After having a “translator from the prison talk to Alvarado and translate what was happening,” the 22-year-old “stated that she understood.”
Alvarado was then arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on one count of taking contraband to/from a penal institution. She remains incarcerated on a $10,000.00 bond.
