It’s that time of the year again. Time for the local high school softball teams to prepare for a run at the state championship. Pine Prairie, Sacred Heart and Mamou will all begin their run this week. Pine Prairie, Sacred Heart and Mamou will host first round games.

The Lady Panthers (25-6) were seeded third in Class 2A. They are pinned to face The Dunham School out of Baton Rouge. Dunham, who was Class 1A for several years, was seeded 30th. At press time, PPHS Head Coach Carolyn Deville was trying to schedule the game for tomorrow at 5 p.m. However, Dunham was not sure if they could play at that time. The Lady Dragons are 7-5 on the year. The winner of that contest will face the winner out of No. 14 Episcopal and No. 19 Fisher.

Sacred Heart (15-7) earned the District 6-2A Runner-Up with a 1-0 victory over Mamou last Wednesday. That got them the seventh overall seed in Class 2A. They will host Welsh, the 26th seed, on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The admission for that game will be six dollars. The Lady Greyhounds are 10-7 on the year and were 6-3 in district. Kinder won that district. If Sacred Heart wins, they will play the winner of the No. 10 Rosepine and No. 23 Opelousas Catholic game.

The Lady Demons of Mamou took the third slot in District 6-2A. They will be at home in the first round. They are trying to make it back-to-back trips to Sulphur. Mamou (19-10 overall), the 13th seed, will host No. 20 Lakeside (16-14, 9-3). That game will take place Tuesday at 5 p.m. The winner of that contest will meet the winner of the No. 4 DeQuincy and No. 29 Loyola game.

All three teams received very good draws and have what it takes to get to Sulphur and try and place for the state title.
