Locals visit Africa with aid recently

Ursula Murphy, co-pastor, and Shun Webb, minister, with Cornerstone International Ministries recently spent two weeks engaging in the mission fields of Durban, South Africa. Although Durban is a beautiful place, the remote areas are filled with poverty-stricken people who live in shacks deep in the valley. With babies crawling on dirt floors and having no electricity, running water or restrooms, the experience was heartbreaking. With 44 million people in South Africa, the crime rate is astronomically high. The number of pregnancies, some as early as age 10 is skyrocketing and the number of Aids victims is phenomenal.

While in Durban, Murphy and Webb shared the experience of visiting Aids victims to pray with them and give them the message of hope through Jesus. They gave clothing and money to a family that has provided shelter for a lot of abandoned children. In South Africa, most abandoned children are left to raise themselves.

They also visited remote areas and valleys to offer prayer and the love of Jesus to all who would listen. Because of the poverty, there is a lack of medical care and poor nutrition, and they fed potatoes and bread to the children. The children were fed as they walked for miles to get back home from school, as there are no school buses.

Among the many things experienced by Murphy and Webb was the Zulu culture and the culture of South Africa, which was amazing for them to witness. Although it was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning in South Africa, the mission was a life-changing experience. The Cornerstone International Ministries has covenanted with Pastor Jerome Naicker of Durban and will further engage in the support of missions in South Africa.
