LSUE holds girls basketball clinic

Louisiana State University at Eunice head basketball coach Michael Bari and his camp staff put the fun in fundamentals this week at the girls basketball camp.
The Fourth Annual Lady Bengals camp concluded Thursday at LSUE for girls age 5 - 14 where they participated in dribbling drills, shooting and learned the basics of offense and defense.
“We had about 30 kids,” Bari said on the opening day of the camp. “They have a good time and they are eager to learn.
“We try to cover everything from footwork to dribbling skills, shooting skills as well as offense and defense.
“Footwork and dribbling are probably the most important things especially at the younger level,” the coach said. “A lot of these kids aren’t strong enough yet to shoot the ball very well, but they all learn to dribble and learn the basics.
“If they leave the camp with three or four things, then I think we have done a pretty good job.”
The coach said his Lady Bengal players learn how to teach while mentoring the younger players.
A camp for girls’ high school basketball teams, freshman through varsity, will be held July 21-24. “We are hoping for a dozen teams,” Bari said of the team camp. “Right now we have about six teams.”
Bari added that the camps in the summer help bring attention to the campus and one day some of these students could be students at LSUE.
