LSUE sweeps Lamar as Lady Bengals continue winning streak

PORT ARTHUR, Texas – The winning ways continued for the Lady Bengals as Louisiana State University at Eunice rolled to a 10-2, 19-8 doubleheader softball wins over Lamar State College on Wednesday.
Hannah Latiolais earned the win in the first game as she struck out five, walked one and allowed two runs on three hits.
Sadie Dykes suffered the loss for the Seahawks as she allowed 10 runs on 13 hits with two walks over five innings.
Leigh Jukes went 3-for-4 for the Lady Bengals (10-22 overall, 5-2 in Division II) with two doubles. Emmalea Dugas went 2-for-4 with a triple, while Jessica Cooper went 1-for-4 with a RBI double.
Kami Hebert was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI; Kim St. Amant went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a RBI.
St. Edmund product Meredith Himel went 1-for-2 with a RBI, as Lindsey Babin went 1-for-1 and Amanda Savoie was 1-for-3 in the win.
LSUE led 3-2 after two innings, sparked by a two-run home run by Hebert and a RBI single by Himel to score Jukes who reached on a double.
The Lady Bengals pushed across four runs in the fourth inning, aided by a RBI double from Cooper to plate Dugas who reached the corner on a triple.
LSUE closed the scoring with three runs in the fifth stanza including a double by Jukes to score Chasity Fontenot and St. Amant.
Lamar jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second game before LSUE exploded for 10 runs on the fourth inning to put the game away.
Salea Willoughby was awarded the win as she allowed eight runs on 10 hits with a walk and a strike out.
Hebert went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Jukes went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
St. Amant finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI; Savoie went 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI; Person went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Cooper went 1-for-4 with a RBI double.
Freshmen Bridget Walker was 1-for-5, while Kayla Sarradet finished 2-for-4 with a double for the Lady Bengals.
The 10-run fourth inning explosion was led by six singles, two doubles and a couple of Seahawk errors to keep the rally alive.
The Lady Bengals added three more runs in the fifth inning, sparked by a double from Sarradet.
LSUE closed out the romp with six more runs in the seventh inning, including RBI doubles from Savoie and Himel.
